About this yarn: Small-batch 100% Shetland wool is a bit of a narwhal here in the US; sure, it's real, but how many of us have actually seen this fanciful horned creature swimming in the sea? And if you do come across it, you know you've got something special!

Shetland sheep, those toy-sized ruminants bred to survive the harsh weather of Scotland's Shetland Islands, also thrive here in the US, where milder climates make for different fleeces but equally wonderful wool! This batch, grown by Meg Falcone and her family in New Hampshire, is a beautiful representation of American Shetland at its finest: airy, bouncy, with lots of shine and surprising softness. These skeins will work up into the lightweight but warm, water-repellent winter garments that make this wool so popular. Choose from natural Primrose (oatmeal) or Basil (chocolate brown)

  • 100% Shetland
  • 2-ply DK/light worsted weight
  • approximately 100 grams/180 yards
  • Sample: Vines Entwined Arm Warmers pattern, by Needle + Purl

We make every effort to photograph yarn colors as accurately as possible, but individual screen resolutions may vary.

About the farm: Meg and her family have been raising Shetlands on Five Sisters Farm in New Hampshire since 2007. She says, "We're captivated by their friendly and quirky personalities, as well as their beautiful fleeces. Our sheep have taught us life lessons and provided laughs along the way. The lambs born on the farm are raised by our five girls and travel to compete in local and national 4-H shows. We love Shetlands and you will too!"
