Where are we going?
Did you see the notice at the top of our homepage? The one that says "orders placed this week will ship the following week"?
Wanna know what we're up to?
A couple times a year, we .... (wait for it) ....
Take. A. Break.
The shop still runs itself online, and you can place as many orders as you like, but we (ok, mostly me, Heather) take a break from shipping, and inventory, and answering questions (although talking with all of you is honestly my favorite part), and get away for a bit.
As a creative small business owner, I've learned - over and over again, and I admit I'm still learning - that it's not possible to come up with creative ideas, or fun stuff for you to enjoy and that I'm proud of, if I'm operating from a state of exhaustion and isolation. And honestly, small business life kinda lends itself to that. I'm a one-person show for most things, and it's tempting to work just one more hour and finish whatever thing seems so pressing.
But a little time away gives me such a good reset. Sometimes we travel to exciting places, and other times we stick close to home, but no matter what - I get out of my office/studio and into new spaces that are filled with new colors, textures, other artists doing cool stuff, spend time with my family, and I not only get rest to come back recharged - I also get more creative energy!
Time away is investment in Needle + Purl as well as myself, and I'll admit - sometimes I do a little accidental or on-purpose sourcing for shop treasures, too. This time around I'm thinking ahead to our curated Holiday Samplers (they're going to be so fun and so different this year!) and finding some really unique vintage items to add to them, along with wool and my own handmade items. A little time away lets me do that.
So thank you, for understanding that this particular week, we might not be here to answer your questions, but it will only be a few days! Thank you for waiting for our shipping a bit longer than usual (I'm typically pretty fast, I must say)! Thank you for investing in a small business like mine, that loves natural wool and sustainable products and doing good in our local communities as much as you do!
I promise, I'll bring some good stuff back for you - keep an eye out! And maybe I'll see you on the trail or at the lake or by the sea!
